Open Pharma quarterly update: July–September 2023

Caitlin Edgell

We’ve had a great summer here at Open Pharma, with some exciting events and publications to celebrate.

July saw us appear as guests at Taylor & Francis’ Evidence Week pod at the UK Houses of Parliament, where we presented our plain language summary recommendations.

We continued our 2023 topic meeting series in July and September with some illuminating presentations from Ashley Farley (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) and Johan Rooryck (cOAlition S) on making open access work for pharma and from Becky Upton and Vladimir Makarov (Pistoia Alliance) on FAIR metadata annotation and new standards.

We also published a feature on driving positive change in the communication of pharma-sponsored research in the AMWA Journal’s special issue on Global Medical Communication. The AMWA Journal is the official journal of the American Medical Writers Association.

In September, we started to look towards next year, with two plenary session proposals and a roundtable session proposal submitted to the 2024 European Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals. We also have an abstract submission in the works for the same meeting.

We’re looking forward to our summit next quarter, which will bring together opinion leaders within and outside the pharma industry to discuss how to increase trust in pharma research.
